I am worried

On Saturday morning , i received a SMS from my younger brother, stating that my dad might be diagnosed for having throat cancer. I was shocked, and upset. Although i am not very close to him, i certainly do not want any bad things to happen to him.

On Monday, the biopsy is done and his report will be out by next wednesday, and the doctor could tell from the intitial sypmtom and from the biopsy process, that he needed an operation. I guess it is not going to be an easy case, as he has been smoking and drinking for 50 years. I always know that he has been neglecting his physical health. It is a volcano building up for 50 years, and waiting to erupt.

It is a lesson learnt, that there is karma for everything you do to others or yourself. Same thing goes for your body. i just hope he will not suffer.

Nan Hui Peach Flower Festival

Every one is going to see Peach Blossoms at Nanhui , 1 hr drive from where i live. And some went to see Cherry blossoms in the Park in Shanghai.
But i just do not have the mood , so i cut and pasted some photos from others' website on Nanhui Peach Blossom Festival outing. Lazy me.

Promotion came too late

I received the announcement from the management last week, that i have been promoted to an asst manager position beginning from Jan. I am quite numb to my new title and not a single tinge of excitement is felt. It came too late after my ex boss has resigned and gone back to Singapore. He has been trying hard to get me promoted, and i am not ambitious enough to take up the position.
After he left, i have to face the harsh management style from the local china ppl and i just do not like it. i have no motivation to continue in cold and wet Shanghai alone. I am in my mid 30s now, i just hope i can settle down with someone who is already my kin, and i want no more challenges for me. I feel old.

Hate and Love Taiwanese

In any industry, Taiwanese customer/boss is notorious in China for their nasty approach at work , being arrogant and autocratic, and treating their suppliers like dirt and their employees like slave. I have heard that many times from others, and i finally got to see it for myself during this trip to Taipei.
However, as a customer in Taiwan, I was quite surprised to find that the service from the locals is friendly and good, with heart warming advices always given by the hotel staffs and shop keepers. I hope this is not because those who have a friendly character are usually from the southern part of Taiwan. I have heard the female receptionists in the hotel where i stayed talking in a "sweetened" tone when they are on the phone, but changed their tones to their usual rough selves after they hanged up. I could not help but to laugh out, it's just so dramatic.
Nevertheless, Taiwanese food is among the best. It's hygienic (after staying so many years in China, i put this as first priority), delicious and unique.

Munching in Taipei

When i was playing mahjong in JB with Alien and the gang, he mentioned that he wanted to come to Taipei for a holiday. I did not foresee that i will be sent to Taipei for business trip a few days later. It was quite a rush and a hectic week just after Chinese New Year and i really do not have time to take a break, coming soon is Hungary and Mexico trip ,which i hate to go because of jetlag.
My hotel here in Taipei is near to Lao He night market, and my colleagues brought me to a Taiwanese restaurant which is really good. We then walked to Tong Hua Night Market, and then spotted 101 tower near by.
Taiwanese food is still as delicious as ever. May be piggy and i can come back again.

The resignation of my boss

In the past few months in SH , my manager ( a s'porean ) has given me guidance and support as well as pressure and challenges at the same time. It is tough to meet his standard but he has led by example to prove that it s possible to reach the standard he wants. Under his leadership, we were working towards the goal of improving our company products' quality with ambitions. But due to his failing health over time , he has chosen to quit and leave for hospitalisation in Spore. The announcement is made to the department on his last day of service (Friday) and we were devastated. I could not help shedding tears in the room after everyone left after his announcement. He is like a brother and a mentor to me and a great source of support for me to survive in this company which puts quality at a less important position but blames the quality team for not doing a good job when things go wrong.

It is a culture shock for me to adapt to this messy company compared to my ex company which is a mature automotive company with solid quality background. And my boss is Japanese company trained, having the same mindset as me that quality is first. But sad to said, both of us do not think that the management shares the same idea, as their focuses are about speed and quantity and not about quality and functional safety of the consumer goods which we are selling now. With his leaving, my lighthouse is gone and all is dark now. To make it worse, the Shanghainese colleagues in my department who are good at office politics but not really keen to solve the problems are now free from his control, and they are bound to start creating havoc in the department to gain power. The Shanghainese employees are usually selfish, calculative, self centered and they do not work for the benefits of the company but only for themselves. In comparison, i still like Hongkong/Sporean colleagues, who are generally effecient and smart .

I am re considering my career path as i do not see light at the end of the tunnel now, and i do not want to tarnish my professionalism to suit the environment.
Unless the new comer is able to take over the role of my ex boss and lead the team towards the right path, there is only 1 option out which is to leave the company. And i will know the decision by next year after Chinese New Year.
